Revision Pit

There's this pit that occurs while revising. You keep thinking, "Well, what if this happened? And what if so-and-so did that because of what happened? And then such-and-such a thing went wrong..."

And before you know it, you're looking at, I don't know, re-writing the whole book.

Where do you stop? Where do you decide that's enough?

I don't know. I figure I'll know instinctively...writer's intuition. I'll know that I've dug my revision pit deep enough, thank you very much. I'll know that any more will mean never getting out.

At least, I hope I'll know.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I think it just comes down to asking yourself, did you write the best story you could for right now?
