Twitter, It's Inconceivable

When I was 17, I got a Facebook. I'd never experienced it before. It made sense within minutes.

COMPARE:

I've been on Twitter for just over a year (May 25). It wasn't until May 11 of this year that I discovered the @Mention tab. (Facebook equivalent = your wall.) And it was, like, "Oh, this is why no one's talking to me. I can't hear them." Dude, I know Facebook. To ignore your wall for a whole year is, like...impossible. Unheard of. In-con-ceiv-able.

And then, Nathan Bransford writes this marvelous post, and I'm like, "Oh, it actually matters where you put the @AwesomePerson word."

As if that wasn't enough of a learning curve, I'm undergoing much duress regarding those I follow. I followed some of them because they followed me - typical Blogger procedure. But it's annoying in Twitter. I don't know you. I don't read your blog. (Is Twitter like a mini-blogger?) Can I just unfollow you? But apparently that's like against all etiquette. Apparently I'm supposed to make a list of all the peeps I want to see everyday. But isn't that like defeating the purpose? And Twitter list-maker hates me.

I've received lovely pancakes from Tahereh Mafi, author of Shatter Me. I've exchanged quick sentences with Shelley Sly, my beta magnifique. It's been fun all around. (Though why everyone is tweeting links - even other people's links - all the time is beyond me. I'm not there to see links...I'm there to see people. (Relax! I don't unfollow people my blogging buddies, even if they tweet links!))

I've also been more confused over a website than I thought possible.

But being able to instantly communicate with other writers who understand #writersblock, #amediting, #amwriting, #plotting, #someonekillmenow, #ifinished...that's worth it. :)

Do you Tweet? Why? Do you not? Why not? What's your username thingy? I will follow you, my blogging buddies! :)

I do not Tweet, nor really do I want to. I am a talker, and I like my blog for that. I don't Face Book either. I just don't get it. #socialmediafailure.

I suppose if I had a 16 year old in the house who would SHOW me how to use it, I might get into it. But Monster Child is only 6 and she's not allowed on my computer.
