The Best Thing That Ever Happened

{Let it be known that my critique notes may be the best thing that ever happened to my MS. So whatever else I say, I said that first.}

me, reading critique notes
{well, not really me}
{but that's what i look like,
when i read critique notes}
I'm discovering that critique notes and I have a strange relationship. It includes a lot of breathing. A lot of closing of the eyes and a deep breath {see, I said a lot of breathing}. Open the eyes. Read on.

Close the eyes again, then peek out through fingers.

You had high hopes for this book, right?

Yaaaaaaaaah...

Well, you see how these notes are going to make it better, right?

Yaaaaaaaaah...

Then you should write accordingly.

Mmmmmmm....

So write.

It's so much work! I can't do this!

It really isn't that much work, and you can do this! You can!

I don't want to be a writer.

Yes, you do.

No, I should find some other career.

You've worked so hard on this book! Now you're just going to wimp out and give up?

...Yes?

No.

No.

*pause*

Let me see those notes again.

And on it goes. Me wimping out. My stronger self grabbing my arm and pulling me back. Sit down and write. This is what you want to do, and this is what you're meant to do. Your book is amazing, and those notes make it so much more amazing. Go. Do. Write. No matter what the notes say, you are more than capable of using them to make your book EPICALLY AWESOME!

*Pats your head and murmurs the "I know, I know. Shhh, it will be okay..." murmur*

Yes, you can. Yes, you will. And Yes - it's TOTALLY worth it.

Oh dear, this sounds all too familiar... >.>

I'm the same way, Melody. I wait in fear and trembling when I hand over my writing to anyone or anything, and I believe I hold my breath and almost die when I read what they have to say.

C'est la vie, mon ami. Hang in there!
