I Cannot Burn Snow

I'm pretty sure it did not get above freezing today.
We have chickens, so we had to reinforce their coop from the wind and cold.
During this project, I wore fingerless gloves to aid in ease of movement.
Consider fingerless gloves in below freezing weather. It, um, hurts.
Someday I shall have a character who has to undergo the pain of recovering fingers. Write what you know, you know?
"'If Gandalf would go before us with a bright flame, he might melt a path for you,' said Legolas. The storm had troubled him little, and he alone of the Company remained still light of heart.
"'If Elves could fly over mountains, they might fetch the Sun to save us,' answered Gandalf. 'But I must have something to work on. I cannot burn snow.'"
- The Fellowship of the Ring, by J. R. R. Tolkein
Everyone surviving the cold so far? Just a couple more days...
